LET FREEDOM RING

LET FREEDOM RING -

This book was written as part of my NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) exercise in writing a 50,000 word story in 30 days or less.

For Johnny Blackwater, making it to warrior meant becoming an adult to the tribe. To make it to Warrior, however, meant a challenging two day trip into the mountains with only two arrows and a knife to get his kill of one deer. Johnny had been to Blackbear's Cave before, hunting with a rifle, but this time it would be different. Only two arrows and no room for misses.

By the end of day one, all but Sam had their kill, so it meant another early rise as they would help Sam get his kill. Sam was ready, but not for the kill he'd make, for his trophy was not a doe or buck, but a full grown bear.

After taking his first shot, when the bear stood on his back feet, the arrow pearcing the bear in the chest area, it fell back on all fours and commenced towards Sam. Unleashing the second arrow, when the bear once again stopped and stood on its back feet, the arrow struck the bear almost where the first one did, but the bear did not fall dead. With only a spear, made from the knife he was allowed to bring, Sam rested the back against a tree as the bear made its final lunge to tear the brave to shreds, and then raised it as the bear was almost on top of him.

Sam's friends were on the other side of the field, in direct line between the bear and Sam, so could not fire off an arrow to distract the bear. The Braves return back to the village and are rewarded for their kill with a ceremony making them Warriors of the tribe.

Weeks later, the same four Warriors join the U.S. Army where they show their hunting skills at boot camp. With Operation Desert Storm coming close, the four Cheyenne Warriors are hand picked for a special mission and are pulled from Boot Camp to a special Demolition Camp where they train as scouts for demolition teams going into Iraq. They deploy, with their squad, for Iraq and as Operation Desert Storm unfolds, they get ready for what they were trained for.
