THE MISADVENTURES OF THE DEVERS BROTHERS

THE MISADVENTURES OF THE DEVERS BROTHERS is my most recent published book of short stories for boys and girls between the ages of ten and sixteen.

Frankie (14) and Johnny (13) Devers, two normal boys who love to fish, suddenly find themselves seeing ghosts. Each story is filled with either ghosts, esp, or psychic abilities.

THE HOUSE ON CABOT ROAD is the first of these short stories. Bored with a lousy day's fishing trip, they dock their boat and enter the abandoned house of ABBOTT CONWAY.They went back to the house, with friends, and one of the boys saw the ghost and they all hightailed it out of there. Frankie was compelled to go back, and his first misadventure begins.

SIMON Is the second short story. On vacation, at a lake, the boys once again take the boat out for fishing. Once again, with the fishing not good, they see a boy fishing from a pier, so they try to visit him and make a new friend while they are there. As the boat approaches the dock, however, the boys are met by the boy's father, who informs them his son is mentally challenged. Not to be disuaded, Frankie and his brother still want to meet him, and the father allows it. When Frankie shakes Simon's hand, he looks at Frankie and talks almost normal, instead of his usual stutter. He informs Frankie that he has ESP and when he gets it, he speaks normally. He tells Frankie about his friend, CAP, (Captain Jack Desmond) who he sees from time to time. The two brothers get permission to take Simon on the boat with them fishing, and they all get to talk to CAP. That meeting starts their next misadventure.

THE SWING - The third story in the series, the boys head to the ball park to play ball with their friends. When they arrive, the ballpark is empty, so they both head to the swings to wait. Frankie notices that all the swings are still but one, and that one was swinging as though someone was in it. Frankie headed over and sat in the swing beside it and started talking. He finds out that it's the ghost of Candace Mills who was occupying the swing. The next day the brothers go back and meet with Candace. After their meeting, FRankie begins his third new misadventure.

THE EMPTY WHEELCHAIR -In this story it's not a ghost the boys get to work with, but ESP - Extra Sensory Perception. Frank senses the Sheriff wanted to call him but chose not to. He headed to the Sheriff's office and the sheriff explained the empty wheelchair and no one was missing. When Frankie sees the empty wheelchair, his ESP kicked in and that started his fourth misadventure.

THE WOLF'S DEN - Realizing that his abilities goes further than just seeing ghosts, he sat at the kitchen table as his mother read the newspaper. He glimpsed the headlines and his ESP kicked in again. A missing boy, at the state park, and Frankie knew that the boy was alive, and for the moment safe, but that he was with a wolf and her cubs. That starts his fifth misadventure, with his brother tagging along.

CHARLIE - A distraught mother, her dead son, and Sheriff Connors get Frankie to help find the person responsible for her son's death. With their new misadventure to start the next morning, the boys are approached by the ghost of Charlie Simms. That starts their sixth misadventure.

MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE - The last story inthe series statrts when the two boys once again were fishing. Johnny notices a bottle floating on the water and scoops it up in his net. He noticed a paper inside it and opened it up. The message read, "PLEASE HELP ME! I'VE BEEN KIDNAPPED. I'VE GOT TO GO, HE'S COMING. That sends the brothers on their final misadventure, as they search for the missing person, a girl named Lynn Anderson.
