My Book OVERTURNED"

"OVERTURNED"
For fifteen years, the high-spirited basketball rivalries between the Archer High Bowmen and Wilkinson High Buccaneers produced events worthy of national acclaim. In nineteen sixty, the media circus that surrounded the event nicknamed the rivalry “The GAME”. That name took hold and quickly drew scouts from top colleges, across the state, to observe the event. Each year at the end of the regular season, and at the conclusion of divisional championships, “The Game” was scheduled.

The rankings, for both teams, come from different divisions: Wilkinson – Division ‘A’ and Archer – Division ‘B’. Players for both teams, having won their respective divisional championships, look to add another notch to their list of fallen opponents. The only real benefit; however, from being victorious in “the GAME,” are bragging rights by the winning team. The Buccaneers edge out the Bowmen by a mere one game and has earned those rights in eight of the fifteen hoop events.
That year it would be Wilkinson who would host the event. The Bowmen were expected at courtside between 6:30 and 6:45 for their pregame warm-ups, but by 7:00 o'clock, the Bowmen hadn't shown for the expected event.
For Tony Perelli, the team captain of the Bowmen, the game they'd play, that night, would not be played on any hardwood basketball court. Their opponents would not be six-foot guards, forwards, or centers, but rather the elements of life itself.
